VOLUNTEER PORTAL

Due to limited staffing, we are currently operating a streamlined version of our volunteer program. Our goal is to better fill the places where we really need help: dog walking, cat socialization, and pet photography. For now, those are the only roles available. If you’re interested in volunteering in these ways, our pets can’t wait to meet you!

Volunteer Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Completed Volunteer Orientation on file
  • Minimum commitment of 4 hours a month for 6 months

Getting Started

New volunteers who will be interacting with animals are required to attend a Volunteer Orientation at our Adoption Center before they can begin volunteering. If it has been more than 3 months since your last visit to the Adoption Center, you will also need to complete an Orientation before resuming your work with the animals. To register, click the Volunteer Portal button at the top of the page. Space at Volunteer Orientations is limited, so sign up early!

Volunteer Opportunities

Active volunteers with a current Volunteer Orientation, please email Katie to get access to the Volunteer Portal!

We currently need volunteers to help with the following tasks:

  • Dog Walking for exercise, learning good leash manners, and socialization
  • Cat Socialization including petting, play, and occasional light grooming
  • Pet Photography to help our adoptable pets show their best side to the world (and most importantly to potential adopters)

Volunteer hours are 12:00 – 6:00 pm Tuesday-Friday, 12:00 – 5:00 pm Saturday-Sunday.

Volunteering for Groups

Woodford Humane is not currently able to accommodate group volunteer projects due to limited staffing. When this changes, you’ll see it here!

Under 18? You Can Still Help!

For insurance and liability reasons, our on-site volunteers are limited to animal lovers 18 years and up. But there are lots of ways you can help the animals if you’re under 18! Here are a few ideas to get you started, on your own or with friends!

  • Make Toys or Treats for the animals at the shelter, like this easy water bottle crinkle toy, or these 3-ingredient dog treats
  • Organize a Fundraiser: donate the money you raise from a lemonade stand, yard sale, or other event
  • Collect Wish List Donations: many young animal lovers ask for gifts for the animals for their birthday, or work together with classmates, youth groups, scout troops, or just friends to collect items that help us care for the pets here
  • Recycle Your Pet’s Old Stuff: if your pet grows out of a collar or isn’t excited about a particular toy, don’t throw those things away! Our pets are happy to have gently-used items your pets are done with.
