The
Woodford Humane Society is a non-profit animal
adoption center in Versailles, Kentucky. We care
for the homeless and unwanted animals in Woodford
County, surrounding counties, as well as animals
from other states. We have welcomed thousands of
animals since 1975 and strive to find
good, loving homes for all of them. A careful
screening process helps us match the right animals
to the right adoptive homes.
With
no government funding, we are completely
dependent on private contributions to continue
to provide care to 1,200 animals each year.
Since 2007, we have placed 90% of our animals
into their forever homes! The national average
is around 25%.
In
2002, we joined a nationwide campaign called No
More Homeless Pets. The mission of this effort is
"to help bring about a time when every cat
and dog that’s ever born can be guaranteed a
good life with a loving family." At the
Woodford Humane Society, we are striving to
accomplish this mission through four areas, coined SAVE: Spay/Neuter, Adopt,
Volunteer, and Educate.
At
any given time, we are home to over 200 animals
available for adoption. Adoption counselors are on
staff to assist with the selection of a new pet.
We maintain a "wish book" for people
seeking a particular breed and let them know when
a match has been made.
Adoption
fees include spay or neuter surgery, a Home
Again microchip, vaccinations and deworming,
feline leukemia and FIV screening for cats,
heartworm screening for dogs, rabies vaccination, a free veterinary checkup and dog
training DVD.
We
provide counseling and offer advice
for topics such as obedience training,
housebreaking, helping your pet adapt to a new
home and other behavioral issues.
Our
open-door policy means that we take in animals in
need, regardless of their temperament, health, age
or breed as long as we have the room to
accommodate them. All of our animals are evaluated
based on health, known history and temperament
before being placed for adoption. We get to know
our animals well and provide the enrichment and
the playtime they need to stay happy.
Adoptable
animals are held for as long as health, behavior
and space permit. We have no standard set time for
adoptable animals to find a new home, in fact many
animals have remained here a year or more while
awaiting their new home Cageless

Owner-surrendered animals are by appointment. This
ensures that we have available space and reduces
stress for everyone. For information about
surrendering your pet, please
click here. We do not provide Animal Control
services for Woodford County. If you find a stray
animal in Woodford County or have a complaint
about neglect, please contact Woodford County
Animal Control at 859-879-0598. We will bring
unclaimed stray pets to our facility for adoption
once their required stray days have been served.
Annual
Fund
Your gift to our Annual Operating Fund helps care
for our animals, including a warm soft bed,
nutritious food, fresh water, spay/neuter surgery,
vaccinations, health checks, and much more. Make
a gift using our secure donation page.
CHAMPS
Emergency Medical Fund
The CHAMPS Fund,
established in 2004 by Susan and Kurt Adams and
their family, allows us to provide extraordinary
medical care for sick and injured animals. This
allows us to accept a surrendered pet even if he
or she has emergency medical issues. Your gift to
this Fund provides special medical attention that
has traditionally been beyond our means. Make
a gift using our secure donation page.
SAVE
Matching Gift & Endowment Fund
This Annual Challenge Fund was created by a
generous family to support our SAVE vision of
Spay/Neuter, Adopt, Volunteer and Educate. Your
gift of $100 or more will be matched by our Fund
Sponsors so it will go twice as far caring for our
precious pets. Our goal for 2010 is to raise
$45,000 in matching funds by December 31. Make
a gift using our secure donation page.
Elizabeth
Simms Gay Spay/Neuter Fund
The best way to reduce animal homelessness is to
start at the source. The
ESG Fund, created by Lucy Bassett to honor her
mother, offers low cost spay/neuter vouchers for
community owned dogs and cats. Your gift to the
ESG Fund will allow us to continue to provide this
vital service to our community. Make
a gift using our secure donation page.
New
Leash on Life Building Fund
Animals moved into our new Adoption Center in 2006
where they enjoy cageless, enriching environments.
Our renovated Receiving Center allows us to
maintain health and provide proper housing for our
newly received pets. Your gift to this fund will
provide for ongoing maintenance and improvements
to our facility. Make
a gift using our secure donation page.
